Obamacare Townhall Protest obamaerscomSaul Alinsky, activist and author of Rules for Radicals, invented the community organiser.  President Obama got his start as a community organiser in Chicago.

Rules for Radicals contains a few simple rules enabling postmodern progressives to protest against conservative, ‘establishment’ socio-political policies.

What, exactly, is a community organiser?  According to Alinsky, a community organiser is a person who:

(1) agitates by identifying and magnifying the real or imagined failings of the establishment as they supposedly apply to the target group, (2) organizes the target group into a political force, and (3) turns that force into ‘change’.

And, how did Alinksy define ‘change’ in this context?

All change means disorganisation of the old and organisation of the new.

Essentially, it’s eliminating the free enterprise system and peacefully overthrowing the present government, replacing it with socialism.

So, what happens when a conservative uses these tactics against a progressive to maintain the status quo?  Do the rules work both ways?

Alas, no:  ‘For me, but not for thee.’

Last week, a number of US Congressmen held townhalls in their constituencies to discuss the proposed Health Care bill.  Democrat legislators were surprised by the vociferous feedback they received from members of the public.

On an NBC blog post dated August 4, 2009, Wonkette contributor Sara K Smith — a progressive — accused these average, hardworking Americans of being ‘astroturfing wingnuts’.  Okaaay.  Thanks for the objectivity.

This is what the average, hardworking Americans are doing — working on instilling uncertainty and doubt in their Representatives in Congress:

The objective is to put the Rep on the defensive with your questions and follow-up. The Rep should be made to feel that a majority, and if not, a significant portion of at least the audience, opposes the socialist agenda of Washington. They need to leave the hall with some doubts about their agenda.

Sara feels really sorry for ‘our federal lawmakers, who are, by and large, grownups’.  Yes, it’s a shame for them to be confronted by ‘outraged yokels shouting about socialism’ because they — the legislators — haven’t even bothered to read the bill which would change health care provision drastically.  Yeah, leave the sainted American Congressmen alone!

But, it was okay when Candidate Obama last year told his people to ‘argue with your neighbours and get in their faces‘ during the campaign. That’s a community organiser’s tactic. What was Sara pontificating about that day?  Kangaroo rats — I kid you not.

And, then, in 2003, there was Senator Hillary Clinton who was upset with the Bush Administration.  She, also an Alinsky disciple, said:

I’m sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and disagree with this administration, somehow you’re not patriotic. We need to stand up and say we’re Americans, and we have the right to debate and disagree with any administration.

Agreed — but both sides must allow dissent.  It’s guaranteed under the Constitution.  Now that the shoe is on the other foot, the progressives want to shut down debate.

Postmodern Progressive Playbook tactics used here:

  • Dissenters are ‘children’ or ‘yokels’ — immature and stupid
  • Dissenters are angry people
  • Dissenters are disturbed people.

Who will out-Alinsky whom?
