Detailed posts on the NATO summit and President Trump’s visit to the UK will follow next week.
For now, Prime Minister Theresa May’s husband Philip May hosted First Lady Melania Trump on Friday, July 13, 2018, more about which below.
As the Trump baby balloon was being inflated before floating over Parliament Square, President Trump was on his way to Sandhurst with the US ambassador to Britain, Robert Wood ‘Woody’ Johnson.
BT.com reports:
He is expected to view a joint US-UK special forces military demonstration at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst …
The president flew into the British Army’s official training centre on Marine One, preceded by two accompanying helicopters.
Woody Johnson, the US ambassador to Britain, was onboard with Mr Trump.
Also attending Sandhurst are several of the president’s aides, including John Kelly, John Bolton and Stephen Miller.
The report left out the Prime Minister:
Meanwhile, Philip May met Mrs Trump at the historic Royal Hospital Chelsea. Suzanne Johnson, the ambassador’s wife, accompanied her. They were greeted by Lieutenant Colonel Nicky Mott, hospital CEO Gary Lashko and Chelsea pensioners John Riley, Alan Collins and Marjorie Cole:
Mrs Trump also met pupils from Saint George’s Church of England primary school, who were making Remembrance Day poppies:
When she arrived into the room, she said “good morning” and asked the children if they would like to show her how to make the poppies.
Mrs Trump had a go at making one, and told the children: “Thank you for helping me.”
She showed Mr May her effort and joked: “Very professional.”
After the poppy making, Mrs Trump listened to school children talk about values and service.
Mrs Trump sat in front of a poster which said “Be the best you can be”.
Mrs Trump recently launched a campaign for American schoolchildren called ‘Be Best’, a poster for which shows in the following tweet:
St George’s has a programme called ‘Be the Best You Can Be’:
Then it was time for bowls:
Meanwhile, Prime Minister May and President Trump were engaging in talks at the weekend home of British prime ministers, Chequers:
One can only imagine what is going through Trump’s mind. Probably something along the lines of, ‘This is a historic moment, because, next time I come here, Theresa May will no longer be Prime Minister’. Sadly, that is a very real possibility — through her own doing for a ‘soft’ Brexit.
By the time this post appears, President and Mrs Trump will have enjoyed tea with the Queen at Windsor Castle and will be in Scotland at Trump’s golf resort, Turnberry, for the weekend.
Mrs Trump tweeted her thanks for a lovely Friday morning:
In closing, for those who are interested, this BT.com article has more information on Mrs Trump’s attire.

God bless Mrs Trump. She displays dignity and class, even under the most trying circumstances.

CM, I’m sure I’m among the majority who think that Mrs Trump is beautiful; she puts the Markle woman and the bald Willie wife completely in the shade. I’ll bet they are so envious of her. Their German relatives can no doubt translate my emotions as schadenfreude. Like the two ugly sisters in Cinderella.
Another thought has occurred to me regarding the Peter Strzok congressional hearings. Now that he’s been shown to exhibit bias in his behaviour in investigating the HRC emails and the President Trump Russian matters, will there now be appeals by all the other victims of his bias in all the FBI cases that he’s been involved with? If it was me in prison because of this man, of be appealing my conviction. Just a thought.

‘CM, I’m sure I’m among the majority who think that Mrs Trump is beautiful; she puts the Markle woman and the bald Willie wife completely in the shade.’ Agree. As the Americans would respond online, ‘YAAAAS!’
But then, Mrs Trump is older and wiser than they are by at least a decade, if not more.
Peter Strzok came off badly on Thursday, July 12. His optics were totally off. For a guy in counterintel, which he supposedly is, it was not a good look. He seemed a bit, shall we say, New Testament-like in his facial expressions.
To date, we do not know yet what the next step will be re Strzok. I continue to hope that, ultimately, justice will be done. At this point, however, no one knows what will happen.
Perhaps Trump’s meeting on Monday with Putin will shed light on the whole ‘Russian collusion’ matter.

This is a marvellous recap of Mrs Trump’s visit, excerpted below:
https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/readout-first-lady-melania-trumps-visit-england/
‘On Friday morning, the First Lady visited the Royal Hospital Chelsea (RHC) in London. Upon arrival, Mrs. Trump, accompanied by Suzanne Johnson, spouse of United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom, was met by Philip May; Gary Lashko, Chief Executive Officer of RHC; and three Chelsea Pensioners, before touring the facility.
‘The RHC, originally constructed 326 years ago by King Charles II to care for British soldiers in the 17th century, now cares for over 300 Chelsea Pensioners, who are former soldiers of the British Army over the age of 65, and provides them with the support and comradery of their fellow veterans.
‘The First Lady, Mr. May, Pensioners, and local schoolchildren from St. George’s Church of England Primary School spent the morning making poppies, which are a symbol of remembrance for fallen soldiers.
‘Mrs. Trump, along with the Pensioners and schoolchildren, met with St. George’s Headteacher, Sarah Collymore. St. George’s students are educated under the school’s motto “the best that we can be.” Mrs. Trump listened to the Pensioners and children tell their stories of how they live their lives under this motto.
‘“Today’s visit to RHC was focused in two areas,” said First Lady Melania Trump. “First, it is always an honor to meet with soldiers who have dedicated a life of service to their country for freedom and protection of their people. Secondly, I was very much looking forward to discussing concepts of “Be Best” on an international level. The event highlighted that being the best you can be incorporates honoring the sacrifices of the past and celebrating hope for the future.”
‘The First Lady and Mr. May’s last stop was at a bowling green on the lawn of RHC. Mrs. Trump and Mr. May watched as children played bowls, which is an outdoor English lawn game, and joined in as well.
‘“Thank you to the Pensioners and wonderful staff of RHC; the students and staff of St. George’s Church of England Primary School; and to Mr. May for accompanying me on a wonderful outing in your country,” said First Lady Melania Trump.’
