Overnight, at the end of May, social distancing disappeared in big cities in the United States once the riots over George Floyd started.
Social distancing then disappeared in Paris and London the following week, as those cities had sympathy protests for the same cause.
It is a strange development:
This is how twisted the logic gets. Mark D Levine chairs the New York City Council health committee:
All of a sudden, it was acceptable for tens of thousands of protesters to gather together.
Yet, at the same time, a large family cannot share dinner together in a restaurant:
And it is against the law for more than ten people to attend a funeral:
These are the conversations taking place with regard to funerals versus protests. There is an unbelievable lack of empathy with this man, who is mourning the loss of his own mother:
Uh oh.
Reread the last sentence of that final tweet.
Online journalists, such as Mark Levin, also think that the coronavirus lockdown was a ruse, ginned up by the media:
Here is The Federalist‘s Sean Davis:
This is from an eye doctor, retinal specialist Dr Brian C Joondeph:
Dr Joondeph writes (emphases mine):
… these riots have unintentionally shown us that Trump rallies are safe and that the Chinese virus is no longer a serious threat. Mail in ballots are dead too since if people can leave their homes to loot and riot, they can leave their homes to vote.
Notice how quickly concern about cities and states opening too quickly has been forgotten as thousands take to the streets, in contradiction to everything the smart set has been advocating. This is lost, or willfully ignored by the media, now focused back on Trump’s latest tweet.
Completely agree.
Social distancing is done and dusted:
Time now, whether in the US, England or France, to open everything up — pronto.

Black Lives Matter’s website says they want all prisoners released, reparations, a guaranteed income for blacks and more. And of course everybody was against what Chauvin did if we have all the information, but the rest of this is political garbage. We couldn’t protest the lockdowns peacefully or gather in a church peacefully but they can breathe all over everyone in the thousands because it works for their narrative. And George Floyd was not a saint. He did some things that caused this as well. We are not a racist country. Chauvin does not represent most police officers. Very sad for them. Nor does this justify killing black police officers or burning down cities. Also sad. Very sad.

Thank you, lynnfay. Great to hear from you. I fully agree.
I’ve known US LEOs and their families, albeit many years ago. The policemen were committed to their jobs and to the communities they served.
Re George Floyd’s police record, for those who might be unaware, the second tweet has a summary:
Nonetheless, in the UK, both the BBC and Sky News broadcast his memorial services, in Minneapolis and Houston, live.
There also seems to be past form between Derek Chauvin and George Floyd, as both worked at the same Minneapolis nightclub when they were off-duty:
On June 10, the New York Post reported:
‘George Floyd and Derek Chauvin reportedly “bumped heads” while working security together at a nightclub years before their fatal encounter.
‘A one-time co-worker at El Nuevo Rodeo on Lake Street in south Minneapolis revealed the duo’s purported shaky history in an interview with CBS Evening News.
‘The tension, David Pinney told the outlet, “has a lot to do with Derek being extremely aggressive within the club with some of the patrons, which was an issue.”
‘The owner of the club, Maya Santamaria, had previously told local outlet KSTP that Floyd and Chauvin overlapped shifts on popular music nights within the last year.
‘Santamaria said Chauvin stood guard outside, acting as the nightspot’s “off-duty police” for 17 years, while Floyd worked inside …’
A Daily Mail article from the same day adds more observations from the club’s owner, Maya Santamaria:
“‘Chauvin was our off-duty police for almost the entirety of the 17 years that we were open,’ Santamaria told KSTP-TV in May.
“When CBS interviewed Santamaria, she explained that she believed Chauvin was ‘afraid and intimidated’ by black people in general.
“According to Santamaria, Chauvin had a tendency to flash his temper and overreact to situations.
“‘He sometimes had a real short fuse and he seemed afraid,’ she said.
“‘When there was an altercation he always resorted to pulling out his mace and pepper spraying everybody right away, even if I felt it was unwarranted.'”
There is also a question over what state George Floyd was in during his arrest.
Unfortunately, in Britain, we have had our own BLM protests which, in some cases, turned into vandalism of public property. There was very little condemnation by anyone in authority about this. George Floyd’s death has nothing to do with Britain and, as my reader H E’s comment in this thread states, nothing to do with President Trump. It is a local and, perhaps, state issue.
But, you know: ‘Never let a crisis go to waste’. So, that ‘crisis’ has to travel not only to the UK, but also France and the Netherlands.
However, there is a silver lining to this cloud. Trump rallies will restart soon:

Yes, it appears that Covid-19, and masks and social distancing, are old news.
What we’re witnessing now with the protests is a planned and well-orchestrated Marxist insurrection. I don’t think these protests in the US and around the world are ‘spontaneous demonstrations’.
200,000 protesters appeared on Sunday in Washington DC. The cost and the number of people involved in planning and funding these activities must be substantial.
Last Saturday was June 6, the Anniversary of the D-Day invasion. The invasion force consisted of about 150,000 men and it required years of careful planning. Yet the ‘spontaneous demonstrations’ involving hundreds of thousands of people around the world were organized in a matter of days. The scope of the effort involved to organize the protests illustrates the size of enemy we’re up against.
The death of George Floyd was merely an excuse to begin the next act of the big show. The news coverage by the mainstream media omitted this important fact: there is no evidence that the killing of George Floyd was racially motivated. Nor did they report that the death occurred in a democrat-controlled city, in a democrat-controlled state, a state in which the Attorney General is the former head of the Democratic National Committee, and in which one of the two US Senators was touted as a possible Vice Presidential candidate for Joe Biden.
Despite no facts to support it, the narrative broadcast by the mainstream media is that America is a racist country, and this is somehow Donald Trump’s fault.
If the goal of the insurrection is to prevent Donald Trump’s re-election, then I don’t think it will succeed. I suspect that the goal is to provoke social discord and to destroy the institutions of the American civil society in order to replace them with a Marxist state.
We see demonstrators tearing down statues and monuments. This brings to mind George Orwell’s quote from his book “1984”:
“Whoever controls the image and information of the past determines what and how future generations will think; whoever controls the information and images of the present determines how those same people will view the past. He who controls the past commands the future. He who commands the future conquers the past.”
The mainstream media has unashamedly dropped any pretense that what they broadcast is the truth.
Those who wish to know the truth must go outside the mainstream media to find it. The upshot is that society is bifurcated into those whose idea of truth is based on the narrative provided by the mainstream media and those whose idea of truth is based on the facts.

Thank you, H E, for more excellent observations, including the prescient quote from 1984.
That reminds me of another (paraphrased): ‘Those who do not learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them’. Tearing down statues is something totalitarians do. Erasing history only gives rise to the same sins of humanity, repeated anew in a much different and violent way.
I agree that this disorder will help President Trump this year. The following graphic shows the Left’s plan in a tongue-in-cheek way, but, as we’ve seen so far, nothing else has worked, so why would this?
Agree that George Floyd’s death was a local and state, not a federal, matter. Therefore, nothing to do with President Trump. The same holds largely true for America’s lockdowns during the coronavirus outbreak. But, as you say, the media played these up as being Trump’s fault.
Furthermore, the contributions BLM have been receiving appear to get funnelled through a fundraising platform called ActBlue, which then distributes them to various Democrat campaigns, including Joe Biden’s, as explained in the short film in this tweet and the ensuing comments:
In closing, if I remember rightly, your state is now open for business and no longer in lockdown? Let me know how it’s going when you have time. Thanks in advance.

Hello Churchmouse:
You asked about the lockdown situation in New Jersey.
For the most part, this state is still locked down. The Governor lifted his stay-at-home order on Tuesday, however, ‘non-essential’ businesses are still closed, as are parks, libraries, and churches. The Governor lifted the stay-at-home order because he was photographed on Saturday attending a protest rally with several thousand people, most of whom were not wearing masks and practicing social distancing. A reporter questioned the Governor about his violation of his own stay-at-home order and the Governor was not pleased with the question. So, to cover his activities he rescinded his order.
On Sunday June 14, churches will be allowed to open for services, however, the number of worshipers is limited to 50. On June 15, outdoor dining, non-essential retail, daycare will be allowed to open. On June 22, barbershops and hair salons will be allowed to open, good news since we haven’t had a haircut in over 3 months. People are still required to wear masks and follow social-distancing guidelines however.
The world has suffered a cataclysmic economic and human toll, not from the virus as such, but from the public policies implemented in response to it. Before the Covid pandemic is relegated to ‘old news’, I hope that the persons responsible for the government shutdowns and the bad public policy decisions face justice. But I suspect that they will simply shrug their shoulders and say “mistakes were made, lessons were learned” and shuffle off .
In a just world, the persons responsible would be arrested and made to appear before a Nuremberg-style tribunal and answer for the carnage they caused. Here I mean Dr Tedros from the WHO, Dr Neil Ferguson, Dr Anthony Fauci, and the Governors of the US states that killed thousands of people by their orders not to use HCQ/Zinc to treat Covid patients and to send Covid-positive patients into elder care facilities. I suspect we won’t see this.
We can tabulate the number of unnecessary Covid deaths caused by bad public policy, and we can estimate the losses in income suffered by businesses and the losses in tax revenue suffered by governments. But what about the persons who lost their businesses, lost their retirement dreams, lost the possibility to fund their children’s higher education?
A former co-worker has a son who played baseball in college and was highly regarded. He graduated last year and signed a contract with a minor league baseball team to play this year. If he played well, then the next step would be a move up to the major leagues.
Because of the Covid pandemic, minor league baseball canceled its season this year. My co-worker’s son has taken a full time job outside of baseball and he’s not sure whether he’ll try to resume his baseball career next year. By that time, he would have been away from the game for a year and he would then be competing against players who just came out of college.
Most likely, he’s lost his chance to play major league professional baseball. How does one quantify the cost of a lost opportunity?

Thank you, H E, for an excellent update. I very much appreciate it.
I am sorry to read about the young man whose baseball career has probably ended. What a shame. Yet another dream gone up in smoke because of this virus.
I was tempted to add ‘and officials’ response to it’, but it’s still active in the UK.
The following reopenings apply to England only.
Schools now have limited opening for certain years (grades), but many parents are not sending their children back. Also, some towns and cities are not reopening them at all. I think there is a fear that the kids will pick up the virus and bring it home as carriers.
Non-essential shops are reopening soon, but they need to get government-issued ‘COVID-19 ready’ certificates to post at the entrance.
Churches and other houses of worship are allowed to open this weekend but for private prayer only.
We have some way to go before eateries and pubs reopen. Ditto hairdressers, barbers and beauty salons.
No word yet on plumbers, painters, plasterers or other building tradesmen working in someone’s home. Plumbers and electricians can attend to emergencies but not for non-essential work.
The two-metre distancing rule also makes reopening places difficult. Does it need to be in place? Yesterday’s headlines said that businesses are demanding it be reduced to one metre.
Back to your state’s reopening, however. Your detailed comment puts a very different slant on it from what I read, which makes it sound as if New Jersey is pretty much open. Thank you for setting the record straight.
I fully agree with you on having a very public tribunal featuring all those you have mentioned. It would be nice if all the prominent medical and scientific contrarians would get together and push for a televised international enquiry.
Also agree that the refusal to use HCQ properly for COVID-19 is another scandal. Anyone who has two synapses that rub together knows that it has to be combined with zinc and/or azithryomycin in order to be effective. Yet, several trials have used HCQ alone! No surprise that they failed. (Prof Didier Raoult is furious that his protocol (HCQ + Azithromycin) has not been used in said trials.)
Going back to an enquiry, those people questioned should also be asked about their political beliefs. It seems that they are affiliated with the left. Ferguson’s views are unknown, but it seems somewhat unlikely that he is a centrist. He certainly isn’t conservative.
This coronavirus panic seems like a giant global reset for a situation that we are unlikely to extricate ourselves from easily. It’s made everyone either a) more dependent on or b) more subject to our already big governments. In many cases, both.
People living in states and nations still on lockdown are subjugated to their governments — and there’s not a doggone thing we the people can do about it.
I’ll be writing about coronavirus in some respect for weeks to come. Feel free to continue chiming in. Your analyses are always welcome.
